I’m Lucas Jones, a U.S. Navy veteran, custom-car builder and the founder of Rusty Snacks. My wife and I handpick the products you’ll find here. It started with something simple: I love beef jerky, and I wanted a bag I could count on.
Here’s our story
WHY I STARTED
Good jerky shouldn’t
be a guessing game.
I got tired of buying a bag and wondering whether the jerky would be tender or like chewing on leather. That frustration became the starting point for Rusty Snacks: focus on the taste, texture and consistency that make a good bag worth buying again.
Our beef jerky is made with brisket. Freshness matters to us, so our producer makes it fresh when we place our orders. My wife and I personally handle product sourcing, choosing the rest of our snack lineup for quality and value.
What I want you to remember is opening that first bag: the aroma, the first bite and the taste that makes you want another. That’s the experience we’re working to earn with every order.
WHERE RUSTY COMES FROM
Custom cars.
Diecast.
And now, snacks.
I’ve always loved everything car-related, and I still build custom cars. That background inspired the name Rusty Nutz for my diecast business. When I started the snack business, “Rusty” came with me.
Rusty Snacks is a family business. My wife and I choose the products together, and I built this website myself. Getting it ready to take orders was my proudest moment so far. It wasn’t my first website, but it was the best one I’d built.
I want this to become your one-stop snack shop, with beef jerky, pretzels, corn nuts and sunflower seeds. We plan to add more jerky varieties and other snacks as we grow. My goal is for Rusty Snacks to become a household name known for taste and quality.
A STANDARD LEARNED IN UNIFORM
People put their
trust in my work.
U.S. NAVY 2000–2007
In the Navy, I worked on ejection seats as an AME. Pilots and aircrew trusted me to do quality work because, in an emergency, their lives could depend on it. That responsibility taught me never to settle for second best.
On September 11, 2001, I was with VS-30, the Diamond Cutters. I hadn’t yet learned about the World Trade Center attacks when my commanding officer walked up and told me to pack my bags.
We left Jacksonville, Florida, that day and arrived in Virginia. On September 12, we flew out to the USS George Washington, just outside New York. We stayed for several weeks, until we were no longer needed.
My service later included VP-30 from 2005 to 2007. Today, the lesson I carry into this family business is accountability: take care with your work and remember the people putting their trust in you.
